Bedtime Stories for Cats by Amy Neftzger
I chose this book to review from the Great Minds Think Aloud Book Club; looking for a light fairy tale story about cats, since I am a cat lover and have two of my own, FeeFee and Shadow. So when I saw the cover of this book I know this book would be a treat like catnip to a cat is and wanted to read it. It is written for the characters are not human but cats exploring the world through their own eyes and opinions talking about their worth to the human civilization. It is short and filled with delightful stories which use psychology and life lessons teaching about survival, kindness, sharing and other qualities the human race needs reminders about once in a while. This book is a must for all pets’ lovers and readers who need a refreshing break away from the stressors in life.
This paragraph catch my eye "once said that “all the world is a stage and all the men and women merely players.” He was half right. The world is a stage, but the stars in this play are the cats dwelling here on earth. The sun was created as a spotlight to showcase their talents. The earth rotates as a curtain upon the different acts so that cats all over the globe have their moments in the spotlight. The end of time will come when cats are no longer admired and the sun has no reason to shine the spotlight upon them".
I delighted in the creativity and fantasy this author created with each story. She also has written one about dogs; which I am off to read and come back a review too; be back shortly.
Back with one paragraph of the companion to the Bedtime Stories for Cats book; the second book; Bedtimes Stories for Dogs.
This one had some similarity of the cat's stories with flair and additional bonuses; such as poetry and dogs expressing their reality explaining their experiences of their existence in the human world. Fill with puns that are fun to figure out.
In the author's words; "Dogs will tell you that cats don’t believe in four leaf clovers because cats have never eaten them. You don’t get lucky just by staring at something, which is all that cats ever seem to do. If that were the case, everyone would be lucky because we all see four leaf clovers every day. However, we don’t pay attention to them because they’re hidden in patches. The truth is that if you want anything to be a part of your life you have to ingest it. Drink it in and have it become a part of you. Dogs understand this. This is why some dogs try to eat grass. It’s not the grass they’re after - it’s the four leaf clovers hidden there. Perhaps, in the end, though, dogs are actually lucky because they believe they’re lucky. It’s all in the attitude. They see what they want to believe: the absolute best in everything. It really does work."
If you are a cat lover, this reader recommends you choose to read the companion book to this one called “Bedtime Stories for Cats.” as the author expresses "Some of the “tails” in that book tell the cat’s version of the stories too. Both stories can be shared with all ages. 4 ravens
