"THE PROPHET" BY AMANDA STEVENS (REVIEW BY LINDA LUCAS)
I started reading "The Prophet" because on the outside it looked interesting. And I thought it might turn into a good read. You would think that a woman as old as I am would know how to pick a good book. Psych! It was more than I ever bargained for. It caught me from the first page, refused to turn loose of me until I hit the last page. Now mind you, I'm not really into scary books, but Miss Amanda Stevens taught me to sit back, get a good cup of coffee and read. Read until my eyes were tired--and then a few pages more. I was never disappointed because once started the author adds in so many variables that you have to be awake to follow along.
The Prophet, as he's known, is the heroine's dream man. He comes in and out of her life at the beginning--as does another ghost who can't remember what happened for the last twenty four hours before he turned up dead. And He wants to know who killed him and why? Sounds logical to me--I'd want to know who killed me wouldn't you? You're darn right. There are twists and turns and new people showing up with more twists and happenings---like the good doctor who drinks a cup of tea with some herbs and promptly goes to sleep. He did right in front of her. Now what I thought. But Ms. Stevens knew and she turned and twisted and kept me pinned in front of my computer for a while longer.
The prophet is written quietly, I think, with all the right touches. Suspense? Romance or twinges of it---beautiful women, mysterious women, powerful women----all woven together around three men. One of whom is dead. And yet, he comes back into the heroines life with his simple request, "Please find out who killed me?"
This is the best book I've read in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. When I finished it, I went back to the beginning of the book to write down the author's name so I wouldn't forget it on my next trip to Barnes and Noble or Amazon. That's when I found out Ms. Stevens has written a Graveyard Queen Series. And the book I'd just finished wasn't the first or the second in the series. It is the third, and it CAN stand alone. Tho now I want to read "The Restorer" and "The Kingdom" to find out what I've already missed.
My compliments, no I humbly bow before the Queen. She can rule me any day any way with any book! I loved it, I'd recommend it to anyone. I'd give it "5 ravens". "Ten" if someone would bend the rules. Thank you Amanda Stevens.
