There was a time when poetry had wide appeal and a great number of followers. Over time this has shrunk to a far smaller group of dedicated people.
This has happened despite the fact that there is a great deal of very good poetry produced.
This situation has to some extent come about due to the fact that many see poetry as having become academic, having moved from the emotional to the intellectual as Carl Sandburg said, “I've written some poetry I don't understand myself.”
I have tried to develop a style that goes against this trend. One that is immediately evocative and operating on the emotional level while still being relevant and thought provoking, yet allowing the reader to accept it as it is, or interpret it according to their own experience. I much prefer another of Sandburg’s quotes, “Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away.”
