Book Title: The Stone In The Meadow Author: Karleen Bradford Published By: Gage Educational Publishing Company Recommended Age: 12+ Reviewed By: Maegan Morin Blog Reviewed For: Great Minds Think Aloud Rating: 5 Ravens
Originally published in 1984 and re-released Sept 2011, The Stone In The Meadow written by Karleen Bradford is a fantastic tale of time travel, friendship and first love. Filled with rich accurate history and Celtic mythology I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's the kind of story I miss reading, when I read the YA books of today. Not that they aren't good its just that this book seems pure and untainted. The Stone In The Meadow is a timeless read. It didn't feel like I was reading an "old" book. I like that "modern" times weren't dated. Leaving it possible for future generations to pick it up and and enjoy the book without references to an earlier time that they wouldn't get or understand. I will say that it was a little strange to read a book with so little dialogue but when Jenifer and Perran go back in time it only makes sense that they don't speak Celtic. However it did add mystery and intrigue especially to a younger reader who may not pick up on what exactly is going to happen before it does.
I give this book 5 Ravens and i will likely read it again and again. It's a good quick read and I rarely say this but I can't wait until my kids are older and I can share this book with them as well.
