Title: Sparkle's Song Author: Samantha Hale Illustrator: Mariana Ruiz Johnson Publisher: Maverick Arts Recommended Age: 5+ Reviewed By: Maegan Morin Blog Reviewed For: Great Minds Think Aloud Rating: 5 Ravens
I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. Sparkle's Song is about a young girl who's parents die and goes to live with her Aunt. Sparkle was always used to listening to music with her parents, dancing and singing with them. Her Aunt's house however, is silent. Until one day Sparkle discovers her song and brings music back into her Aunt's life. The message in this story is amazing that even if you lose someone you don't have to lose everything about them, and I think its and important lesson that everyone should learn. The author also tells it in a fun easy way that everyone can understand. From my son's perspective I don't think he really understood (he's 3) what was going on. he did however enjoy the artwork and loved all the dancing, talking instruments. I would definitely recommend this book for a slightly older child who has a better understanding of what death is. 5 Ravens
