Title: Hatter Author: Daniel Coleman Recommended Age: 16+ Reviewed By: Maegan Morin Blog Reviewed For: Great Minds Think Aloud Rating: 4 Ravens
Hatter written by Daniel Coleman is the story of Hatta (The Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland), and his youth. How he became "mad" and all the fantastical, magical things that happen along the way. On the other side of the spectrum is Chism he's hard and gruff and only sees things in black and white. Literally and figuratively. He is the perfect compliment to Hatta and they couldn't be more different. This is the story of how they saved a kingdom. For me this was a very enjoyable read. Coleman has a real talent for making you fall in love with his characters big or small. I found myself on more than one occasion wanting to reach out and give Hatta or Chism a hug. I found Hatta to be perfectly portrayed. Exactly what you would expect the Mad Hatter to be in his youth. Quirky, loving, peaceful and mad. Maybe. I also liked the references to colors in the book along with all the little details of the story that you wouldst think would mean anything but amaze you when it all comes together at the end. Speaking of the end, I loved it. A lot of times endings can feel rushed or there's not enough information. But the author took his time and thought it definitely is not what I was expecting or guessing would happen, it was awesome. I felt complete closure. All the loose ends were tied up nicely. 4 Ravens
