After reading the first two books of Suzanne Collins reknowned series, "The Hunger Games" it is hard to find words to describe it that have not already been used. Stephen King said it best I think but I will give it a go. I pride myself on being a great lover of literature and have likely read everything I could get my hands on since I was old enough to realize what words were.I must say that these novels have renewed my hope of finding writers that are not afraid to take risks with their characters. Suzanne Collins is a virtuoso in this area, she succeeds profoundly in giving everyone, not just young adult readers, a novel to be proud of, one we can all cherish and I must say that these books will join the ranks of my favorites upon the same hallowed shelves that are home to "Harry Potter", "The Lord of the Rings", "The Chronicles of Narnia", and others that I can never seem to find the ability to part with. This is not to say that she is a writer in the same vein, nor is it to say that these works are remotely anything close to what has been written by these esteemed authors. What I am trying to say is, these novels deserve to be placed with the same league as those classics we love so. There is so much emotion and devastation, elation and conquest in these books that to speak anything even remotely shallow about them would be a horrible injustice. I can only say to Suzanne as well as her fans that I hope she writes more and I fully intend to read anything she has written before or anything she may write after these wonderful books. She is a true asset to the literary field!
