The painful details make the reader want to rally for the character as she relates her thoughts about her life and the people she interacts with and how it affects her. She has a dark secret, a defense mechanism to help her through her torrid storms of personal issues and troublous thoughts about her feelings which leans towards anger for her misfortunates in life. She has a mission to achieve' to give up her codependency and learn to strive to become independent and stand on her own feet and forgive the alleged offenses against herself and others and develop self-confidence coping skills and give up her addictions and behaviors which were self-destructing to her.
In author's words; "he palmed it in her hand then held it out for me to see. “Is this what it looks like?”
My jaw dropped. “Yes, exactly. What is it?”
“It’s called snowfl ake obsidian,” she said slipping the rock into my palm. “You were seeing it in your minds eye for a reason. Keep it with you. It will help you through this time in your life.”
I rubbed it in my hands half expecting a miracle, something to mend all the leaks in my heart that I attributed to the constant feeling of emptiness. But the emptiness didn’t subside. It never did. Instead a soft feeling of peace crept through making me think that maybe the emptiness wasn’t real, or if it was real, that it was okay to feel, for now."
This story is about a young woman journey through a painful reality to achieve peaceful acceptances of her choices and continue on her journey she embarks upon to become balanced in her own identity and move away from the past and look towards the future.
