In Moonlight and Oranges Elise Stephens offers us an interesting retelling of the Greek myth of Cupid and Psyche. The book is an imaginative take on the myth but stays true to the message of the original telling including creative touches to make it more modern. My favorite part of the book was how well researched Lorona's name was. Named after La Llorona "The Weeping Woman" (Hispanic legend), it ties in beautifully with Kestrin and his dreams. The book was really well thought out. My favorite character was Amanda. She was evil incarnate and I really like the way she was written. If you think your mother in law is awful then you should really wear this book! I like that the characters are flawed and they know it.
However I found the first half of the book really slow and there really wasn't a lot going on. Though I'm glad that I did read it, I really had to force myself to get through the first half. The last half of the book I just couldn't get enough of. I poured through the pages as fast as I possibly could and it just didn't seem fast enough. I just had to know what happened and how it would end!
I recommend this book for anyone 16+ and mostly because I think anyone younger then that would get bored with it. I give this book 4 ravens. It was a good read and I would like to read more from this author. I just wish that there was a little less lovey dovey and a little more excitement in the first half of the book.
